Most consumers need the help of a competent Realtor while buying or selling real estate. It is only natural that they would like to hire someone who is not only professionally competent and abides by highest ethical standards, whereas the services offered are also competitively priced. In a market where Realtors are often perceived as under-trained and overpaid, where misleading advertising has become a norm and where emphasis on professional competence has taken a backseat, consumer education has attained a much greater significance in order to make informed decisions.
Experience has shown that there are primarily two sources of hiring an agent, that is, either referral from a friend or a family member or picking up someone from advertisements. Referral is obviously a better choice, however, it depends on whom you are talking to and how candid and objective that person is, otherwise you could be in for a surprise. Hiring a Realtor from advertisements can also be challenging especially when every other agent is claiming to be the Top Agent in town.
I firmly believe that Realtors need to attach greater emphasis to professional competence in order to earn more business rather than resorting to advertising which could be construed as misleading. They are supposed to be custodians of peoples greatest assets and need to prove that they are worthy of their trust. However, it will be prudent for the consumers to do their own due diligence while hiring a Realtor.
In order to help consumers make better decisions I have written several articles on important real estate topics. I believe that these articles can be a healthy start in bringing about a positive change in real estate industry. I have tried to be as objective as possible while writing these articles and hope that buyers and sellers will benefit from my humble effort. These articles are free and there is no obligation.
